In Scotland
Living in a democracy, we have the unique right to hold our elected officials to account, and to petition them to take action on issues we think are important. There are a couple of MPs who feel that it is important for the UK and the rest of the world to wake up to what is happening in Burma. The International Development Committee has recently released a report calling for more aid to the peoples of Burma, but it is important that other MPs know that you, the public are interested and want them to be involved.
You can help by writing to your MP and asking them to support this measure. Click here to find a letter you can customise or write your own.

By Giving
Partners UK, and their partner organisations work to provide relief and aid to normal people who have had their lives turned upside down by one of the most brutal military regimes in the world. They are passionate about the people and the cause they support, but it takes money to provide medical treatment, food, shelter, clothing, and education to help these people.

By Going
Are you looking for something meaningful to do during your gap year? Do you have a medical elective and want a unique experience? Even if you just have a few weeks holiday and want to be involved in something bigger than yourself…maybe going and working with Burmese refugees is the answer.
Though there is no formal process for going and volunteering with Partners in Thailand, if you are interested, email info@runforburma.org and we can put you in contact with the relevant people.
What might you be doing? Anything.
Relief teams almost always include a photographer and team members try to interview refugees and villagers to learn about their experiences. These reports need to be organised and published, to provide formal evidence of the regime’s abuses.
The refugee camp has a medical clinic run by a Burmese refugee. Though the doctors in the clinic are fully capable, they are limited by time, and welcome additional help.
The refugee camp at Mae Sot also has a Bible college, that provides theological education, but also provides general education for refugees. The students are eager to learn, but need teachers. Though prior teaching experience would be ideal, all that is necessary is knowledge of a subject or skill (business, economics, English, math, computer engineering, etc) and the willingness to share it.
